Time is running out to secure your .uk domain

Dot UK Domain

The .UK top level domain became available for general purchase from 10 June 2014 by Nominet. Nominet is responsible for all UK domain name registrations and had up until that date only provided second-level domains such as .co.uk or .org.uk. In fact the original intention for the UK sub domains was .co.uk for businesses and .org.uk for charities/non-profits before .me.uk was introduced for personal use. They also run .net.uk, .plc.uk and .ltd.uk for specialist use. The .uk domain is general purpose but they needed to make sure that previous owners of the second-level were allowed to purchase the general purchase version. Note that for ease of reading, I will refer

New Domains 2016

There have been more top-level domain names released to general availability (GA) in 2016. In this short article I have listed those that are available now and those that are being considered for release. I’ve split the listing into those that are available to purchase now under GA and those that are at an earlier stage where you cannot purchase but may register an interest in them (and possibly buy in the future). Some sites call this pre-ordering or pre-registering but there is no guarantee that you will get the domain name even if you register an interest. What do I need to do to get a company web presence?

Domain Hosting

As the New Year gets underway, I have been contacted quite a few times by people who are interested in domain names, email addresses and websites but they don’t know where to start. Perhaps a lot of people are starting new businesses in 2016 or maybe those running new businesses have realised that they need a web presence to compete regardless of the industry. What is a domain name? Why do I need hosting? What do I need to do to set up a company email address or a website? In this article I cover the minimum you need to know to get started, explaining any jargon along the way.

General Availability (GA) Pricing of Top Level Domains (TLDs)

New TLD Pricing

You may be aware that many new top-level-domain (TLDs) names were put on general availability in 2014 and 2015, meaning we have hundreds of domain name extensions to choose from. This short article looks at the pricing of the domain names for the new TLDs. There can be a huge difference in the pricing model between TLD owners as they set the price themselves. However, it doesn’t end there as the pricing model for all of these new domains can vary greatly even within the same TLD with a single domain name fetching from a few pounds to thousands of pounds. For those of you that are not aware of

General Availability (GA) of Top Level Domains (TLDs) in 2014 and 2015

New Domains 2015

This is my first update in 2015 on domain names that are now available. So far in 2015 we have had 34 new top level domain names released for general availability (GA). Many more are in the process and will go to GA soon and others are under consideration. In this short article, I have provided a list of the top-level domains (TLDs) released in 2015, a summary of those released in 2014 and a list of those that are at an earlier stage for delivery to GA in 2015 or that are under consideration. Some of those are country-based TLDs but that could be made available to the general

New November TLDs

Welcome to my latest domain update with separate listings for those domain extensions available to purchase now under general availability (GA) and those that are at an earlier stage where you cannot purchase but may register an interest in them for when they do become available. Some sites call this pre-ordering or pre-registering but there is no guarantee that you will get the domain names that you show an interest in. There are many places where you can buy or attempt to register an interest in the new top level domains, just do a search on the extension you are looking for at your normal domain registrar. Alternatively, you can

Only one week to go until .UK becomes available to use online

Dot UK Domain

In just a week’s time on June 10th 2014 you will finally be able to use your pre-registered domain names with the .uk extension for email addresses, hosting websites, etc… This extension is only available to owners of domain names with a .co.uk extension and is not yet being offered to owners of .org.uk or .me.uk. At the moment, to pre-register a .uk domain name you have to either own the .co.uk or to purchase them both together. I have several .co.uk domains and I’ve purchased the .uk extension for some of the ones I want to keep but others I’m not bothered about. I believe that from June 10th
